30 day draw-a-thon. Day 3: The Demon of Dasehra

say hello to Ravana!

so i've been listening to this new mars volta album a lot. in one song he repeats the word "Dasehra" over and over and it's wonderful, but i'm white so i had no idea what it meant.

i looked it up and it's a religious festival in India. they construct giant models of this multiheaded mustached dude and set him on fire. there's a whole story about Ravana and his sons being defeated by Rama and the forces of good, but i'm not gonna pretend that i was inspired by that. i just love creepy dudes with 9 heads and a mustache.

this drawing was a little more ambitious than i intended for these daily drawings, so the pencils will count for 1 day and the ink and color can be separate days.

also i have no scanner at home. so i will draw, but not post, over the weekend and save em for weekdays.

day two of my 30 days of drawing stuff everyday. the watercolor fill patterns are going really well. i really love it. i'll probably do that for most of these 30 drawings.

got some sick brush-pens, too. fun to start playing with them.

30 day draw-a-thon. Day 1: The Laughing Man

i'm going to draw something everyday for 30 days starting august 1st. something not related to These Bears.

apparently it takes 30 days to form a new habit. and i want to draw everyday. need to draw better, faster, more frequently and with more variety.

first up is The Laughing Man. this is a guy from an Italian B Horror movie called Graveyard Disturbance.

i'm experimenting with the watercolor patterns, since it's what i plan on using when it comes time to color Jesus Goes To Hell.

"what's Jesus Goes To Hell?" it's a comic i'm making. i've been working on it since feb 2012. it'd be really great if i can finish it and release it on christmas day. #satanpoints

cody dickover was the 100th fan on these bears on facebook. so he gets a bearicature.

but i couldn't draw the captain without his crew. so here's the harrington gang (in alphabetical order: cody, dario, jon, ross, steve)

i added dario even though he doesnt live there anymore. and he may not even have that mustache but whatever fuck him if hedoesn't.

when i asked "if you could see a bear do anythign what would it be?", matt responded with "escape form castle wolfenstein.

i just can't resist that. so here's some practice and hopefully that'll be ready next week.

current project. unfinished steampunk portrait (to add to the archive page) from a comic that hasn't been finished either. "these bears are surviving the wastelands" just needs to be inked and colored.

EDIT: i made have been hasty with the term "steampunk." this may be more accurately described as "cyberpunk." but who gives a shit? i don't.

this one took forever. while it was personally rewarding, i'm very glad it's over.

i've just been real into satan lately

i've been listening to a lot of what i guess you could call a new wave of doom metal.

and i've been reading mark twain's letters from the earth.

all of which have contributed a little to this comic, at least in tone. satan has always been and always will be the funniest character of all time. and the most horrifying and interesting. i've always held a special place for him in my heart, and yet it took me 9 nine months of making this comic for him to show up. i guess i just was wanted to make sure i did it right. no need to rush satan.

i'm still reading a lot of robert e howard's conan short stories, so there's still a lot of "sword & sorcery" style bear comics on the way. the ones with the bearded bear and the axe.

it's safe to say that you can tell what music and books i've been into based on the action comics.


ALSO. in case you're not the type to google translate the satanic prayer from teh comic, it roughly translates from latin as:

"satan, prince of the earth. your penis is great."
